The problem - the UK produces over a million tonnes of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment each year from domestic and commercial sources. When put into landfill sites, this waste releases its toxins and pollutes the environment.

In addition, data contained on IT devices is often insecurely removed or not removed at all. This has become a security risk. Even damaged or formatted drives can stil have their data harvested!

The WEEE Directive - to reduce the impact that this can have, the EU introduced a Directive 2008/34/EC) that encourages re-use and the recovery of base materials while reducing the environmental impact of its disposal.

So What Can BioTekNik Do For You?
Our Computer Recycling Service works this way.

We can collect and destroy all IT related goods for you in a quick, secure and ethical way. In some circumstances we can offer a free service - where there is sufficient quantity of IT related goods to collect. Otherwise there is a small charge to cover fuel, time etc.

Once collected, all title to the goods is transferred to BioTekNik and therefore all responsibility for its correct disposal

All devices containing data are electronically wiped using commercial software prior to smelting or shredding

A record of serial numbers is taken.

All identifying marks are removed

Most items are reduced to their component level and value is obtained from their base or precious metal content. Metals, cables, boards, cpu’s, glass, EEPROMs etc are then taken to specialist companies for recycling. All goods are recycled in a 100% ethical manner and in accordance with Bioteknik's stated aim of minimal environmental damage.

A certificate is issued confirming the above process has been completed.

Whilst we are based in the South East, we work all over the UK. BioTekNik has succesfully recycled for many blue chip companies as well as Local and County Councils, the NHS , Schools, Colleges and the MOD.

We currently achieve +95% recycling. We are confident that, with our clients help, we can achieve the 100% we aim for.
